Falls City Economic Development and Growth Enterprise (EDGE) announces the sale of the historic Stephenson Hotel in downtown Falls City. The Stephenson Hotel is one of the most historically significant properties in Falls City and Richardson County. A landmark in Southeast Nebraska, the Hotel was built in 1924 and was known as the Weaver Hotel until it was purchased by the Stephenson family who have owned if for the last 50 years.

New owner Mitch Glaeser, a Florida native, is excited about his first investment in Nebraska with the purchase of the Stephenson Hotel. He has been successful in numerous business ventures, including business consulting, motivational speaking, entrepreneurship, and real-estate development. Mr. Glaeser has a special interest in historic buildings and enjoys working with and restoring buildings to their full potential.

Falls City EDGE encouraged Glaeser to invest in the community of Falls City. “Mitch is one of the most ethical, honest and community-minded business people I have met,” stated Renee Bauer, Executive Director. “I know I can trust him to maintain, restore,preserve and market the Hotel and Falls City.”

To Mitch it is more than just working to accomplish a goal, but challenging others to be the best they can be. “Together we can make a difference and make life better for everyone around us,” he said. “That’s the standard I try to live by and encourage others to do the same.” Working in Falls City will allow Mitch to expand his business interests while preserving a significant piece of our local and regional history.

At one time most midwest communities had a significant downtown hotel presence, of which most are now gone. Falls City is lucky to still have ours and it had tremendous potential for the community, both as an economic driver and for social significance.

“With the transfer of the Hotel ownership to Mitch, we place one of our landmarks in trustworthy hands,” Bauer said. “Mitch is a great corporate citizen and our Hotel will again become a social and business gathering place for the community and region offering a unique opportunity for our area. Mr. Glaeser is investigating several different options for uses of the Hotel and will announce those at a later date. However, his principle focus with his investment is to maintain the historic character of the hotel and prominence as a cornerstone in downtown Falls City.
