Governor Appoints Mayor Vandeberg to Nebraska State Highway Commission

Gov. Dave Heineman on Friday announced his appointment of Rodney Vandeberg of Falls City to serve as District 1 Commissioner on the Nebraska State Highway Commission. He will complete the term of Duane Acklie, who resigned earlier this year. The term runs through the fall of 2011.

“I have known Rod a long time and I have great respect for him as a business and community leader,” Gov. Heineman said. “Senator LaVon Heidemann’s endorsement of Rod was a key factor in my decision. I’m confident Rod will be an outstanding Highway Commissioner.”

Vandeberg, 71, is the retired chairman and Chief Executive Officer of First National Bank and Trust Company in Falls City. He was named chairman in 2000, after serving as president and CEO from 1973 to 1999. Vandeberg retired from banking earlier this year, with more than 51 years of experience. He now serves as Mayor of Falls City.

Vandeberg was a member of the United States Army Reserves from 1958 through 1964. He served two tours of active duty and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. Among his duties, the State Highway Commission conducts studies and investigations in an effort to provide adequate and safe highways in the state. Its eight members serve in an advisory role to the director of the Nebraska Department of Roads.
